ESSAYS by Steve TaylorHere's a selection of the essays and articles I've written over the last few years. Many of them have been previously published, in magazines and journals like New Renaissance, Abraxas, New Dawn, Paradigm Shift and the International Journal of Transpersonal Studies. Some of them have never been published before. They cover my main interests: the nature of spiritual experiences and their causes, the awakening effect of encountering death, the nature of time, the psychology of happiness, the origins of social pathologies like warfare and social inequality, and so on. There are essays related to my books, The Fall and Making Time, two essays on my literary hero, D.H. Lawrence (published in the Journal of the D.H. Lawrence Society) and an essay on that most myopic and bigoted of scientists, Richard Dawkins. There are a few academic papers, complete with abstracts and lists of references, but mostly these were written for a general readership. Two essays, 'Crossing the River' and 'Satsang: the Powerful of Spiritual Presence', are edited extracts from a new book I've been working on recently, a study of 'awakening' experiences, or higher states of consciousness. The essay 'The Sources of Higher States of Consciousness' summarises the main argument of this book.
